Social initiatives

ASL recognises that its business activities have a significant impact on the social, economic, and environmental wellbeing of our stakeholders. We believe that the way we run our business will make a positive difference in these areas and we aim to ensure that continued efforts are made to achieve this.

Charity Events and Fundraising

Prioritising community health, ASL has installed defibrillators at its Head Office and Northern Office which have been registered with The Circuit. This life-saving equipment made available to anyone who may need it for free via The Circuit app. Alongside this, we have offered CPR training to all staff equipping them with skills to respond effectively in critical situations.

ASL Charity Policy

ASL recognises that the Company and its employees have a significant role to play in the communities within which we work and live. Employees can contribute by volunteering, offering their skills and time to organisations that will benefit. To support this, ASL provides employees with two days paid time off from their normal day-to-day roles, to take part in voluntary activities as part of an Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) scheme. In addition to the benefit to the community, volunteering is a valuable opportunity for staff to apply and develop their skills and broaden their perspectives.

ASL Employer Supported Volunteering scheme

• Team Challenges: One off practical tasks completed by a group of employees typically involves, but not limited to, decorating, painting, or gardening.

• Individual volunteering: Employees are able to give regular time, perhaps for one or two hours per month. Activities could include e.g mentoring, sports administration or helping at a youth club, or befriending an older person.

• Skills based volunteering: A wide range of skills is required by voluntary and community organisations to help maintain and develop more effective services. Skills based volunteering could include financial or legal services, business planning, marketing, IT support etc

• Fundraising: Help to raise funds for voluntary organisations.

• In Kind support: Providing a free service to a voluntary organisation including use of facilities for meetings, limited agreed use of printers or photocopiers.

Health & Wellbeing

The wellbeing of our staff is a important to us. In order to support this commitment, we have established a comprehensive wellbeing policy. This policy clearly defines the responsibilities of the company, management, and employees in fostering a healthy and supportive workplace environment.

We offer two dedicated Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), providing our team members with access to valuable resources, including bereavement and probate support counselling. Additionally, our workforce is supported by trained Mental Health First Aiders across various roles, ensuring that help is always available when needed.

Apprenticeships

At ASL our apprentices are an integral part of the business. We employed our first apprentice in 2012 and continue to offer various opportunities. The apprenticeship courses we offer vary depending on the needs of the individual and the business, there’s a whole range of choices. We enjoy having the young perspective within the business as it supports individual and business progression, though we also offer apprenticeships to existing staff as part of their development plan and to gain a recognised qualification.

Extensive induction training provided to all new starters for cyber security, GDPR, manual handling and equality, diversity and inclusion.
